Mumbai, July 8: Legendary playback singer Udit Narayan, known for his golden-era Bollywood hits, is back in the spotlight with the title track of the upcoming film Maine Pyar Kiya Phir Se. Speaking to IANS, Narayan expressed his excitement over the project, calling it “high on melody”—a musical quality he believes is rare in today’s Bollywood.

“The melody never dies. It is immortal,” Narayan said, praising the music composed by the veteran duo Dilip Sen and Sameer Sen. “All the songs in this film are melodious. After so long, they’ve got such a big film again, and they’re pouring their hearts into it.”

Narayan described the title song as a “romantic sad track” and appreciated the lyrical work of producer Rony. The film also stars Bollywood veterans Dharmendra and Arbaaz Khan.

Beyond music, Narayan briefly addressed the ongoing controversy in Maharashtra over the imposition of Hindi in schools. “I am an artist. Mumbai is my workplace, and my job is to entertain people. Marathi is important when working in Maharashtra, but all languages of our country are equally important,” he said.

The controversy stems from a Maharashtra government decision to make Hindi a compulsory third language in schools. The move sparked widespread protests, with political heavyweights like Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray joining forces for the first time in decades. In response, the government rolled back the decision, making Hindi optional while prioritizing Marathi and English.

As violence against non-Marathi speakers continues in parts of Mumbai and Pune, voices like Narayan’s emphasize unity through art and cultural respect. Meanwhile, fans of classic Bollywood are eagerly awaiting his musical return in Maine Pyar Kiya Phir Se.
