Gomati, July 18: Tripura’s Minister for ARD and Fisheries, Sudhangshu Das, during his visit to Gomati district on Friday, emphasized the vital role of aquaculture and mixed farming in empowering rural entrepreneurs and improving livelihoods.

Accompanied by Matabari MLA Abhishek Debroy, Minister Das inspected the fish farming ponds of Shymal Debnath, a progressive farmer from East Chandrapur RFVC area. Commending Debnath’s success, Das revealed that the farmer earns around ₹15 lakh annually through aquaculture. He directed fisheries officials to provide full support to Debnath under relevant government schemes.

The Minister also visited the poultry farm of Priyanki Deb Sharma from Bagma constituency, appreciating her efforts in mixed farming. He praised her for achieving self-reliance and highlighted how women in Tripura are benefiting from government support to become economically independent.

Minister Das acknowledged the initiatives of the BJP-led state and central governments under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly in promoting women’s empowerment. He encouraged more women to engage in fisheries and animal husbandry for financial growth.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to sustainable aquaculture, Das visited the fish farm of Abhijit Mazumdar from Chataria in Tepania block. Mazumdar, who earns about ₹12 lakh annually from fish farming, was assured continued assistance and inclusion under various development schemes.

Minister Das stressed the need for adopting scientific and modern fish farming techniques to increase productivity. He affirmed that the fisheries department would extend full support to help Tripura achieve self-sufficiency in fish production.

The visit showcased the government’s focused efforts to uplift rural communities through aquaculture, mixed farming, and women-led enterprise initiatives. Minister Das concluded his tour by encouraging farmers to utilize government schemes and scale their ventures with modern practices.
