Agartala, July 21:
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of girl students in colleges has significantly increased after the state government announced a fee waiver scheme for them.

Speaking at a State-level Commendation Ceremony at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, Dr. Saha recalled, “After taking charge as Chief Minister, I announced a fee waiver for college-going girl students on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima. Following this move, the GER of girl students in higher education has gone up remarkably.”

During the event, which celebrated 100 percent success of various schools, the Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s focus on strengthening school infrastructure.

In the financial year 2024-25, new buildings for several schools have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 153 crore, while renovation work—major and minor—of 346 schools was undertaken with Rs. 80 crore. For FY 2025-26, Rs. 264 crore has been allocated for constructing new buildings in 30 schools, and Rs. 151 crore for renovation of 123 schools, he added.

Dr. Saha also emphasized the role of technology in modern education. Citing the strategic use of drones in India’s military operations, he underlined the growing relevance of drone technology in agriculture and announced the setting up of a Drone Technology Centre at Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT).

He urged teachers to embrace AI-driven learning tools and help students focus on classroom learning over private tuition.

Highlighting educational achievements, he stated that Tripura’s CBSE results were 2% higher than Assam’s. He also acknowledged the teacher shortage post the 10,323 case and assured that recruitment of quality teachers is underway.

Special Secretary to Education Raval Hamendra Kumar, Director N.C. Sharma, and SCERT Director L. Darlong also attended the programme.
