Agartala: July 26: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday announced that a new cricket stadium will be developed at Sabroom in South Tripura, with land approval already granted for the project. He said the land, currently under the Education Department, has been officially approved for use by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) to build the new facility.
Speaking at a felicitation ceremony and annual reunion of life members of the Tripura Cricket Association in Agartala, Dr. Saha said, “Cricket is one of the most celebrated and popular sports in Tripura. The TCA has been tirelessly working to promote the game, and now, a new cricket ground in Sabroom will further boost infrastructure and opportunities for young talent.”
The Chief Minister, who shares a long-standing association with the TCA, emphasized the urgent need to establish a state-level cricket academy to ensure proper training and skill development for aspiring cricketers. He assured that the government would extend all necessary support to make this vision a reality.
Dr. Saha urged all stakeholders—players, coaches, and officials—to work together to take cricket in Tripura to new heights. He said the government is committed to promoting sports and nurturing talent at the grassroots level.
The event was attended by Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Tinku Roy, Chairperson of the Tripura Human Rights Commission Justice Arindam Lodh, TCA President Tapan Lodh, and several other dignitaries.
The announcement has sparked enthusiasm in the state’s cricketing circles, as the new stadium and proposed academy are expected to provide a major boost to the sporting ecosystem in Tripura, particularly in the southern region.
