In a major breakthrough, Sonamura Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the brutal robbery and murder case that recently shook the Kalamkhet area under Sonamura Police Station. The arrests mark significant progress in the investigation of a crime that has deeply disturbed the local community.
According to police, the suspects were apprehended following intensive investigation and intelligence gathering. On Thursday, all four were produced before the court, with police seeking remand for further interrogation.
Speaking to the media, Police Officer Rajib Sutradhar stated, “We have made significant headway in the case with these arrests. However, for the integrity of the investigation, the identities of the accused are being withheld at this stage.” He further added that efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the remaining suspects.
The horrific incident occurred during a late-night home invasion in Kalamkhet, where a group of 10–12 armed miscreants stormed the house of an elderly couple. The attackers brutally killed Shanti Ranjan Das and severely injured his wife, Namita Das, before looting valuables from the residence.
The act of dacoity and homicide has sparked widespread outrage among residents, prompting calls for swift justice and stronger law enforcement. Locals have expressed concern over the growing insecurity in the region and urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible.
Police sources confirm that multiple teams are working on the case and additional arrests are expected soon. The investigation aims to determine the full extent of the conspiracy, recover stolen items, and ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.
Authorities have assured the public that no effort will be spared in solving the case and restoring confidence in public safety.
