Agartala, Aug 8 — A middle-aged couple, Kajal Sil and his wife, have been desperately seeking police intervention to protect their family and property from a human trafficking gang allegedly occupying their land. On Friday, the helpless couple met Bishalgarh SDPO Dulal Chandra Datta, pleading for urgent protection.
Recounting their ordeal, Mrs. Sil said the trouble began when they objected to traffickers using their land, located adjacent to the Indo-Bangladesh border, for smuggling Rohingyas and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. A bamboo grove on their property was often used as cover for such activities. “We told them not to use our land as it could land us in legal trouble for harbouring illegal immigrants. Since then, we have been facing one problem after another,” she said.
She alleged that a few days ago, several armed miscreants raided their house. “Fearing for our lives, we fled and took shelter in a rubber garden. The next day, they came again and stole valuables, including cash and gold ornaments, from my cupboard,” she added, her eyes welling up.
The couple stayed away from their home for days and lodged a complaint with Madhupur police station. However, they claim no action has been taken so far. “This is why we came to meet the SDPO. We have nowhere else to go,” Mrs. Sil said.
According to the couple, the alleged masterminds of the racket are Mithan Sil and Litan Sil, both of whom have been arrested in the past in connection with similar offences. They urged the authorities to act swiftly before the situation escalates further.
