Agartala, Oct 10: Acting on a tip-off, the Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a Bangladeshi national and an Indian tout from Agartala Railway Station on Thursday morning. The arrests were made around 8:30 a.m. near the station’s main gate following a swift operation based on specific secret intelligence.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Deepu Ghosh (25), son of Dulal Ghosh, a resident of Sukanta Nagar under Gangarampur Police Station in Dakshin Dinajpur district, West Bengal, and Asha Das (18), daughter of Tirtha Das, a resident of Kaunia in Rangpur district, Bangladesh.

According to police sources, the duo was apprehended while attempting to travel from Agartala to another location. During preliminary interrogation, Asha Das reportedly confessed to entering India illegally through the Sepahijala district border, allegedly assisted by the Indian tout. The GRP suspects that the two were part of a larger cross-border trafficking or illegal migration network operating along the India-Bangladesh border.

Following their arrest, a specific case has been registered at Agartala GRPS Police Station (Case No. 2025GRP097) under Sections 61(2)/249(b)/143(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Sections 14(A)(b) and 14(C) of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and Section 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Amendment Act, 2000.

Both accused have been taken into police custody for further interrogation. Investigators are probing the circumstances of Asha Das’s entry and whether the duo had any links with cross-border trafficking rackets. Legal proceedings are underway, and authorities are coordinating with border security and intelligence agencies to trace the wider network facilitating such illegal entries.
