Agartala, Oct 15 — Tripura Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha has demanded the immediate dismissal of state Cabinet Minister Sudhanshu Das following the latter’s public admission of accepting money from multiple sources, widely perceived as bribery. Saha made the announcement to the media on Wednesday evening and also sent a formal letter to the Chief Minister urging urgent action.
In his letter, Saha highlighted that Das openly admitted in a state media interview that he, along with other ministers, receives money from various sources. “While he may not want to term it as bribery, legally it constitutes a serious act of corruption,” he wrote. Saha pointed out that despite this admission, there has been no denial from the minister, whose family was reportedly listed as Below Poverty Line prior to 2018.
The Congress leader noted that over the past five years, Das, as an MLA, and as a minister for two years, has accumulated extensive wealth, with assets registered in his name and those of his relatives across key districts of the state. Yet, despite repeated media reports highlighting these anomalies, no investigative action has been taken by central agencies like the ED, IT, or CBI, nor by the state government. Saha criticized the ruling party, describing it as a “washing machine” protecting its members.
Urging immediate constitutional and legal intervention, he called for Das’s removal from the Cabinet and a thorough investigation into the source of his and his family’s disproportionate wealth. Saha also demanded that similar probes be initiated against other ministers who have reportedly amassed substantial assets in a short span.
He warned that failure to act would erode public trust in the state government, the Constitution, and the rule of law. “I hope the Chief Minister, in the interest of the state and its citizens, will take swift and decisive action to uphold the dignity of his office and the integrity of governance,” Saha added.
