Dharmanagar, Oct 16 — The North Tripura District unit of the BJP on Thursday submitted a deputation to the Additional District Magistrate (ADM), alleging that several traders in Dharmanagar and other parts of the district are not complying with the Central Government’s revised GST regulations.

According to reports, the Union Government recently reduced the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on several essential commodities to provide relief to consumers. However, complaints have emerged that a section of traders is not passing on the benefits of this tax reduction to the public, continuing to charge higher prices despite the official rate cuts.

Expressing concern, BJP district leaders said such non-compliance undermines the government’s efforts to ease inflation and support lower- and middle-income families. The party urged the district administration to intensify monitoring and take strict measures against those violating GST norms.

“The Central Government has reduced GST on essential items so that the common people can benefit. It is unfortunate that some traders are not following these directives. We demand strict vigilance and prompt action to ensure fair pricing,” the BJP delegation stated in its memorandum.

In response, the ADM assured the delegation that the administration is taking the issue seriously. He announced that a special investigation team will soon be formed to assess whether the benefits of the GST reduction are genuinely reaching consumers. The team will inspect market rates, review billing records, and take action against traders found violating the guidelines.

Local residents welcomed the move, hoping that stricter enforcement would ensure transparency in pricing and prevent traders from exploiting consumers under the guise of outdated GST rates.
