Udaipur, October 21:
In a proactive step to safeguard public health during the festive season, the Food Safety Department on Tuesday carried out a surprise inspection at the ongoing Diwali Mela in Matarbari, Udaipur. The drive was led by Food Safety Officer Milan Mondal, accompanied by Chief Food Inspector Debjyoti Chakraborty and other departmental officials.
The inspection team visited multiple temporary food stalls set up across the fairground to assess the quality, hygiene, and safety standards of food items being sold to visitors. Officer Mondal stated that the objective of the operation was to prevent the sale of contaminated or expired food, thereby ensuring a safe and healthy festive environment for thousands of fairgoers.
During the inspection, food samples from 14 stalls were seized after being found unfit for consumption. Officials reported that several items were foul-smelling, unhygienic, and potentially hazardous to human health. The confiscated food materials were immediately destroyed on the spot to prevent any risk to the public.
Speaking to the media, Officer Mondal urged citizens to remain alert while purchasing food during the mela and to promptly report any instances of stale or spoiled food being sold. He informed that complaints can be lodged directly with the Food Safety Department through the official helpline number: 9233898211.
He further assured that similar surprise checks will continue throughout the duration of the Diwali Mela to monitor compliance and maintain food safety standards. “Our goal is to ensure that every visitor enjoys the festive celebrations without any health concerns. Hygiene and safety will remain our top priorities,” Mondal emphasized.
The initiative was widely appreciated by local visitors and stall owners, who welcomed the department’s efforts to uphold food quality during the festival.
