In a disturbing incident that has raised serious concerns about law and order in Tripura, a police officer was assaulted by local activists during a public event in Belonia. The shocking visuals from the incident have gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage and igniting debates over public safety and political accountability.

According to reports, the altercation occurred late at night when police intervened to stop an ongoing orchestra performance that had violated sound regulations by continuing past 10 PM. The Officer-in-Charge, who was enforcing the noise control law, was reportedly dragged off the stage and physically attacked by a group of individuals allegedly linked to a local political outfit. The incident quickly escalated, drawing strong reactions from citizens and leaders across party lines.

Authorities have since heightened police presence in the area to maintain order and prevent further unrest. The state police have launched a thorough investigation, assuring that those responsible will be swiftly identified and brought to justice. Meanwhile, the assaulted officer is receiving medical treatment, and his condition is reported to be stable.

The Belonia episode has reignited discussions on the growing challenges faced by law enforcement officers in maintaining peace during public gatherings and cultural events. It has also raised questions about the increasing politicization of local disputes and the lack of respect for law enforcement personnel performing their duties.

Citizens and civil society groups have called on the government to take decisive action, strengthen crowd management protocols, and ensure the safety of police officers on duty. The state administration has promised stern action against the perpetrators, reaffirming its commitment to uphold law and order and prevent such acts of violence in the future.

The incident stands as a grim reminder of the urgent need for collective responsibility in preserving peace and respecting the rule of law in Tripura.
