Agartala, November 8:
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reiterated the state government’s strong commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure across all levels, emphasizing that along with GBP and IGM hospitals, district and sub-divisional hospitals are also being prioritized for both structural and service-related upgrades.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 25th Annual Conference of the Association of Physicians of India (API), Tripura Chapter, held at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Tripura Medical College, Dr. Saha underscored the crucial role of medical associations in promoting collaboration and experience-sharing among doctors, which he said greatly contributes to advancing the quality of healthcare delivery.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that such conferences would yield practical outcomes beneficial to both the medical fraternity and society.

Highlighting key achievements, Dr. Saha noted that Tripura now boasts three medical colleges offering nearly 400 MBBS seats and a dental college with 63 seats. He further announced the establishment of a Rs 900-crore private medical college and hospital at Bodhjungnagar and mentioned the successful completion of five kidney transplant surgeries in the state.

“To improve patient services at GBP Hospital, the government has signed an MoU with AIIMS Delhi. Under Ayushman Bharat and the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme, Rs 250 crore and Rs 26 crore respectively have been spent on healthcare welfare,” he said, adding that Tripura now has over 1,100 Health and Wellness Centres, and plans are underway to set up a state-of-the-art eye hospital near ILS.

On the inaugural day, Dr. Saha presented Lifetime Achievement Awards to four eminent physicians—Dr. Bijoy Pal, Dr. Piyush Kumar Dutta, Dr. Tushar Kanti Dey, and Dr. Gautam Roy Choudhury—and released a commemorative souvenir. The event also featured addresses by several senior medical professionals, while API Tripura President Prof. (Dr.) Arindam Dutta proposed the vote of thanks.
