Agartala, Nov 10 — Minister for Transport and Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, while leading a major welfare distribution event at West Majlishpur Gram Panchayat.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our government is firmly committed to the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ ensuring development for every individual in society,” the Minister said.

The event, organized by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a unit of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, witnessed the distribution of 595 assistive devices to 114 specially-abled beneficiaries. Implemented under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) scheme, the initiative involved an expenditure of around Rs 50 lakh.

Chowdhury, who also represents the constituency as MLA, personally handed over the devices to the recipients and underscored the transformative role of such welfare programs. “This initiative is not just about distributing equipment — it’s about empowering individuals to lead independent, dignified lives,” he said.

Highlighting the ADIP scheme’s objective, he noted that it aims to improve mobility, functionality, and self-reliance among persons with disabilities. The Minister further stated that the BJP-led government has changed the narrative around disability. “We no longer see them as ‘physically challenged’ but as ‘Divyangjan’ — citizens with divine abilities and immense potential,” he remarked.

He added that many beneficiaries have become self-reliant through government initiatives, proving that inclusive development is now a lived reality.

Chowdhury concluded by saying that the government continues to strive for a society where every citizen, irrespective of physical ability, can live with pride, purpose, and equal opportunity.
