New Delhi, Nov 10 — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday arrested a Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Patil Kumar, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹2.4 lakh from an East Delhi resident in connection with the verification of property documents.

According to officials, ASI Patil Kumar, posted at Jyoti Nagar Police Station, demanded a bribe of ₹15 lakh from Sanjay Kumar Sharma, a resident of Meet Nagar, for submitting a favourable report regarding his property in a court case at Karkardooma. Sharma’s house, located at B-302, Meet Nagar, Main Wazirabad Road, had been transferred to him through a will from his father, and the court had directed the ASI to verify the ownership documents.

The complaint filed by Sharma on November 8 stated that the ASI had threatened to submit an adverse report if the bribe was not paid. After negotiations, the ASI agreed to accept ₹2.4 lakh as part payment. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the ASI red-handed while accepting the bribe amount.

A CBI verification report confirmed that the allegations were substantiated in the presence of an independent witness, Roshan Kumar, an Inspector with the Food Supply Department, Burari. The report noted that ASI Patil Kumar had indeed demanded ₹15 lakh to influence the outcome of the verification report.

Following the verification, the CBI recommended registering a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). Superintendent of Police I.B. Pendhari subsequently approved the registration of FIR No. RC0032025A0061 against the accused officer.

Officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine whether other individuals were involved in the bribery attempt.
