Agartala, Nov 18 — A high-level review meeting of the Department of Scheduled Castes Welfare was held on Tuesday at the department’s conference hall in Gurkhabasti, Agartala, to assess ongoing welfare initiatives and strengthen support mechanisms for Scheduled Caste communities across the state.

The meeting was chaired by Minister Sudhangshu Das and attended by Secretary Deepa D Nair, Director-cum-Additional Secretary Jayanta Dey, along with all state and district-level officials. The agenda focused on two core areas: economic and social upliftment of financially weaker Scheduled Caste families, and scholarship programmes aimed at educational empowerment.

Minister Das instructed officials to ensure the swift implementation of departmental schemes, emphasising that timely execution is essential for delivering benefits directly to the people. He reiterated that the department’s mission under the present government is centred on inclusive development, improved educational access and strengthened social security for vulnerable families.

Outlining the department’s achievements in recent years, the Minister noted that thousands of students have benefited from various scholarship schemes, allowing them to continue higher studies without financial constraints. He also highlighted the rollout of multiple skill development and livelihood programmes designed to promote self-reliance among marginalised groups.

Das added that welfare initiatives have been broadened to include support for health, housing, and community infrastructure, reflecting the state government’s commitment to holistic development. These measures aim to create sustainable opportunities and uplift disadvantaged communities socially and economically.

Urging officials to work with dedication and urgency, the Minister stressed that no eligible beneficiary should be left out of welfare coverage. He reaffirmed the government’s broader vision of ensuring social justice, educational advancement and economic empowerment for Scheduled Caste families across Tripura, and called for coordinated efforts to accelerate progress in all districts.
