Agartala, 20 November

Tripura has taken another significant step in its renewable-energy journey, as the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana continues to expand across the state. With rooftop solar installations steadily increasing, Tripura is close to achieving five megawatts of solar power generation. But beyond boosting output, the state government is now prioritising smooth consumer experience, ensuring that households availing the scheme face no technical difficulties or service gaps.

To reinforce this objective, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has launched a two-day specialised training programme for field-level technicians. The initiative is being supported by GIZ, the German development agency renowned globally for its expertise in renewable-energy capacity-building.

The training programme was inaugurated on Thursday at 10:30 am at the TSECL conference hall. Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, IAS, formally opened the session, alongside TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu and Acting Director General of TREDA, Debabrata Shukla Das. Forty-five technicians from different vendor networks joined the workshop, all of whom work directly with rooftop solar installations in the state.

The inaugural session underscored a clear message: consumer satisfaction must remain the top priority. Singh emphasised that every consumer complaint should be resolved promptly and accurately by well-trained professionals. Basu highlighted that the long-term success of the PM Surya Ghar scheme depends heavily on the quality and conduct of technicians who engage with households. Their performance, he noted, will build public trust and encourage wider adoption of solar rooftops.

GIZ’s extensive international experience forms the backbone of this training. The agency has contributed to solar-PV capacity-building programmes worldwide, developing standardised courses, manuals, and safety guidelines. Tripura’s curriculum reflects these global standards, covering PV technology basics, inverter and controller operations, safety protocols, installation procedures, maintenance practices, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.

This programme follows earlier GIZ-supported training for 53 TSECL managers held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala. More sessions for managers, vendors, and technicians are planned, and officials are considering offering basic awareness training for consumers as well.

By focusing on both capacity building and reliable service delivery, Tripura is strengthening the foundation of its renewable-energy ecosystem—ensuring that the state’s solar growth is both sustainable and consumer-friendly.
