Two days after receiving a complaint, Tripura Police arrested one Jahar Miah for allegedly molesting a minor girl under the jurisdiction of Sonamura police station. According to Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das, the arrest was made possible through coordinated efforts of multiple police units across the district.

Providing details, OC Das said the police received the complaint on December 1 at around 3:45 pm. Following a preliminary inquiry, a case was registered the same night under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He added that the prime suspect had been absconding since the incident, prompting the police to launch an intensive search operation.

During the investigation, police teams from Bodhjungnagar, Amtali and Sonamura police stations worked jointly to trace the accused. After tracking his movements and gathering inputs from the field, the accused was finally located in the Nandannagar area of Agartala. The joint team swiftly acted on the information and detained him from the Nandananagar Noabadi locality.

OC Das confirmed that the accused was formally arrested and brought to Sonamura police station for further legal procedures. He added that the accused has been produced before the court with a prayer for police remand to facilitate further investigation into the case.

Police officials stated that they are taking the matter seriously given the nature of the allegations involving a minor. Further interrogation and evidence collection will continue as part of the ongoing investigation. The authorities assured that all necessary legal steps will be taken to ensure justice for the victim and her family.
