The untimely death of intern doctor Saptarshi Das in a tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh has plunged Tripura into deep mourning. On Tuesday, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Choudhury visited the bereaved family’s residence at Ramnagar, Agartala, to offer condolences and express solidarity during their time of profound loss.

Choudhury spent time with the grieving family, comforting Saptarshi’s parents and close relatives as they struggled to cope with the shock of the young doctor’s sudden demise. He prayed for the eternal peace of Saptarshi’s soul and conveyed heartfelt sympathy on behalf of the people of Tripura. He acknowledged that the state had lost a bright and promising medical professional who had only just begun his career, and whose life held great potential for service and contribution to society.

The fatal accident occurred on the Delhi–Lucknow National Highway, where four medical students lost their lives after their vehicle met with a devastating collision. Among them was Saptarshi Das, who had recently completed his MBBS and commenced his internship—an important phase that marks the transition from student to practicing doctor. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the medical community, his peers, and all who knew him.

After a long and emotionally draining journey, Saptarshi’s mortal remains were brought back to Agartala. Relatives, neighbours, friends, and community members gathered in large numbers to pay their last respects, reflecting the deep affection and regard he had earned in his short life. Many recalled him as a dedicated student, a compassionate young man, and an aspiring doctor committed to serving society.

The somber atmosphere at Ramnagar stood as a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the irreplaceable void left behind by Saptarshi’s passing.
