Agartala: BJP’s senior Janajati leader and former Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Tipra Motha Party, accusing it of misleading and betraying the tribal people of Tripura with false promises over the last five years, particularly on the long-pending demand for Greater Tipraland.

Addressing a public programme organised by Kathalia–Mirza–Rajapur MDC Padmalochan Tripura near the ADC village market at Thalibari, Rebati Tripura, without naming Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma directly, questioned the leadership and credibility of the party’s supremo. He alleged that the leader neither understands the Kokborok language nor has adequate knowledge of the Constitution.

“Those who project themselves as big leaders have repeatedly misled the tribal people with hollow assurances. The promise of Greater Tipraland was nothing but a massive deception,” Rebati Tripura said while addressing the gathering.

Recalling the 2021 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, the former MP said Tipra Motha had sought votes by assuring people that Greater Tipraland would be achieved by passing a bill in the ADC. “Even after five years, they have failed to explain how such a demand can be fulfilled through an ADC bill. There is no such provision in the Constitution,” he asserted.

Rebati Tripura also alleged large-scale corruption at Khumulwng, the headquarters of the TTAADC. Claiming serious financial irregularities, he alleged that development projects worth Rs 9 crore were inflated and shown as Rs 14 crore, demanding accountability from the ADC leadership.

Taking a dig at Tipra Motha’s future prospects, the BJP leader predicted that the party’s dream of returning to power in the 2026 ADC elections under the present leadership would be “completely shattered.”

The programme, during which sports equipment and clothes were distributed among beneficiaries, was also addressed by BJP Sepahijala (South) district general secretary Prasenjit Ghosh, Janajati Morcha state committee secretary David Debbarma, and MDC Padmalochan Tripura. All speakers strongly criticised the performance of the Tipra Motha-led ADC over the past five years, accusing it of poor governance and unfulfilled promises to the tribal communities.
