The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission office in Agartala has been closed indefinitely starting December 23, leading to the suspension of all visa and consular services from Tuesday onwards. The sudden shutdown has affected hundreds of applicants who regularly depend on the Agartala mission for travel, medical, business, and family-related documentation.

According to official information, the decision to close the Assistant High Commission was taken after reviewing the prevailing situation, although specific reasons behind the move have not been publicly disclosed. Authorities stated that the office will remain closed for an indefinite period, creating uncertainty for individuals seeking Bangladesh visas and other consular services.

The Agartala Assistant High Commission plays a crucial role in people-to-people connectivity between Tripura and Bangladesh. A large number of residents from Tripura and neighboring northeastern states rely on this office for visa applications, passport-related assistance, and other diplomatic services. With the closure, applicants are now left without clarity on alternative arrangements or timelines for the resumption of services.

Sources indicated that visa processing and consular work, including document attestation and related services, have been completely suspended with immediate effect. Applicants who had already booked appointments or submitted applications are expected to face delays. Many have urged authorities to issue clear guidelines regarding refunds, rescheduling, or alternative processing centers.

The closure has also raised concerns among traders, patients seeking medical treatment in Bangladesh, and families with cross-border ties, as the Agartala mission has long served as a vital diplomatic link between the two regions.

Officials have not provided any official statement on when operations may resume. Until further notice, the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala will remain shut, and applicants have been advised to stay alert for official updates. The development has once again highlighted the importance of diplomatic missions in facilitating regional cooperation and cross-border movement in the Northeast.
