Ahead of the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, Tipra Motha received a significant political boost on Friday with the induction of nine leaders from Maharani Chelagang who quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the regional party.

The leaders were formally inducted into Tipra Motha in a programme attended by Tripura minister Brishaketu Debbarma, party spokesperson Rajeshwer Debbarma, and several senior party leaders. The event highlighted the growing momentum of Tipra Motha in the run-up to the crucial ADC polls.

Speaking to the media, Rajeshwer Debbarma said that the party has been witnessing a steady influx of leaders and supporters from various political backgrounds. He added that the turnout at the induction programme was so large that the organisers faced a temporary shortage of traditional Tipra risa, symbolising the scale of public participation and enthusiasm.

Among those who joined Tipra Motha were Purendra Reang, who had earlier contested the ADC elections as an Independent candidate from the Maharani Chelagang constituency, along with BJP leaders Dayal Jamatia, Nabaranjan Jamatia, Debananda Jamatia, and several others.

Addressing the gathering, the newly inducted leaders recalled that in the 2021 ADC elections, Tipra Motha’s candidate had lost the Maharani Chelagang seat by a margin of around 1,800 votes. They claimed that many voters who had earlier supported other parties have now shifted their allegiance to Tipra Motha, reflecting a clear change in public sentiment in the area.

Tripura minister Brishaketu Debbarma said the increasing number of leaders and supporters joining Tipra Motha indicates growing public trust in the party’s vision and leadership. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to safeguarding the rights, identity, and interests of indigenous communities.

Party leaders welcomed the new members and expressed confidence that the continued momentum would further strengthen Tipra Motha’s organisational base in Maharani Chelagang and surrounding regions ahead of the ADC elections.
