State Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday подчеркed the importance of railway overbridges as a critical component of modern infrastructure, stating that they play a vital role in making daily life safer and smoother for the public. He was chairing a high-level review meeting in Jirania to address challenges related to the construction of proposed railway overbridges across key level crossings in the subdivision.

The meeting was held at the conference hall of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office and focused on identifying and resolving obstacles that have delayed the implementation of overbridge projects at several railway crossings in Jirania subdivision, including areas falling under the Majlishpur assembly constituency. These crossings witness heavy movement of both vehicles and pedestrians, often leading to traffic congestion and safety concerns during frequent train passages.

Emphasizing the importance of the projects, Minister Chowdhury said railway overbridges are essential to ensure the safe movement of people and vehicles without interrupting rail operations. “Overbridges help prevent accidents, reduce waiting time at level crossings, and ensure uninterrupted connectivity, which is crucial for economic and social activities,” he said.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Transport Department, the Public Works Department (Roads & Buildings as well as National Highways), and the Northeast Frontier Railway. Local representatives and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate also participated in the deliberations. The discussions revolved around technical, administrative, and coordination-related issues that have slowed progress on the proposed projects.

The Transport Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to resolving all bottlenecks at the earliest. He described railway overbridges as lifelines for communities, particularly in fast-developing areas where traffic volume continues to rise. Chowdhury directed the concerned departments to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and adhere to strict timelines for execution.

Once completed, the proposed railway overbridges are expected to significantly enhance road safety, ease traffic congestion, and improve overall connectivity across the Jirania subdivision, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.
