In a major crackdown against illegal cannabis cultivation, the Lefunga Police Station, under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sahadeb Das, carried out a series of successful anti-ganja operations in the Abhicharan and Dighalia areas, dealing a significant blow to illicit cultivation networks.

Acting on specific and credible intelligence inputs, a joint task force comprising personnel from the local police, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and central security forces conducted coordinated raids on government land where large-scale cannabis plantations had been illegally established. The operations were executed in two phases over consecutive days to ensure thorough coverage of the targeted locations.

The first raid was conducted late Sunday night in the Abhicharan area, followed by a second operation on Monday afternoon in Dighalia. During these drives, the joint force identified and destroyed approximately 9,000 mature cannabis plants, which were ready for harvesting. The plants were uprooted and destroyed on the spot in accordance with legal procedures, preventing their entry into the illegal narcotics market.

OC Sahadeb Das confirmed that both plantations were found on government-owned land, indicating organized and deliberate misuse of public property for illegal activities. He stated that preliminary investigations have begun to identify the individuals and networks involved in cultivating the banned crop. Police are examining local links and possible interstate connections as part of the probe.

He further emphasized that the Lefunga Police Station has intensified surveillance in vulnerable and remote areas to prevent the re-emergence of such plantations. “This anti-ganja campaign will continue in the coming days with zero tolerance towards illegal cultivation,” OC Das said, adding that strict legal action will be taken against all those found involved.

The operation reflects the police administration’s commitment to curbing drug-related activities and ensuring public safety. Local residents have welcomed the action, expressing hope that sustained enforcement will deter illegal cultivation and help maintain law and order in the region.
