As part of the Police Week celebrations, the North Tripura district police on Saturday appointed a Class XI student as “Superintendent of Police for a Day” to promote awareness about policing and inspire young people to consider careers in law enforcement.

Niharika Das, a student of Dharmanagar Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, took on the symbolic role at the office of the Superintendent of Police at the district headquarters in Dharmanagar.

During her interaction with police officials, Niharika expressed her aspiration to join the police service in the future. She described the opportunity as a valuable experience that helped her understand the responsibilities and functioning of the department.

When asked about her priorities as “SP for a Day,” she said her main focus would be to ensure that citizens feel safe and secure. She emphasised the importance of listening carefully to public grievances and providing timely assistance to those in need. According to her, effective communication and prompt action are essential to building trust between the police and the community.

Avinash Rai, Superintendent of Police of North Tripura district, said the initiative was aimed at increasing public awareness about policing and motivating students to explore public service careers.

“The objective is to familiarise young people with the role and responsibilities of the police and inspire them to serve society,” Rai said.

Police officials added that the programme forms part of a series of outreach activities being conducted during Police Week to strengthen ties between the police and the public. Such initiatives, they said, help bridge gaps, encourage transparency, and foster mutual understanding between law enforcement agencies and the community.
