A family from the Ramnagar area of Agartala on Sunday approached the local police station, expressing serious concern over alleged police inaction against what they described as an active land mafia racket in their locality. The family claimed that despite filing a formal complaint, no steps have been taken against the five accused individuals.

Speaking to reporters, a female member of the family alleged that her son was brutally assaulted on February 12 after he refused to comply with alleged extortion demands. “A group of five persons called my son for a meeting. When he reached the spot, they thrashed him mercilessly,” she said. According to her, the attack left her son with severe injuries, requiring immediate medical attention.

She further claimed that when she rushed to the scene to intervene, she too was injured during the scuffle. Her son was first admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGM Hospital) and later shifted to Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GB Hospital) for advanced treatment. Although he has since been discharged, the family says he continues to suffer from physical and psychological trauma.

The woman identified the accused as Bikash Ghosh, Tapu Ghosh, Sukanta Debnath and his two sons. She alleged that they are known in the area for illegal activities, including land grabbing and extortion, and for intimidating local residents.

The family claims that despite lodging a complaint, the police have failed to act. Alleging possible collusion, the woman said the lack of progress in the case has deepened their fear and insecurity. They have urged authorities to ensure their safety and initiate prompt legal action against the accused.
