Agartala, March 8: C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday addressed the 14th Convocation Ceremony of Tripura University in Agartala, urging young graduates to pursue “progress with purpose,” stay away from drugs and use technology responsibly for the benefit of society and the nation.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-President said India’s youth stand at a historic moment as the country moves steadily toward the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. Emphasising the transformative role of technology in modern society, he encouraged students to adopt innovation responsibly and use their knowledge for constructive and socially beneficial purposes.

Radhakrishnan described Tripura as a state rich in culture, heritage and spiritual traditions. Referring to his visit earlier in the day to the revered Tripura Sundari Temple, he highlighted the deep cultural and religious significance of the region.

He also appreciated the development initiatives undertaken through the joint efforts of the Central and State Governments. Referring to the Mata Bari Tourism Circuit, he said the project would enhance Tripura’s presence on the global map of spiritual and eco-tourism while creating employment opportunities and strengthening the local economy.

Highlighting the importance of connectivity for integrating the Northeast with the rest of the country, the Vice-President said the past decade has seen major improvements in infrastructure, including rail, road and air connectivity, under the leadership of Narendra Modi. These developments, he said, have strengthened national integration in the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

Encouraging students to serve the nation with dedication, he also quoted renowned Tamil poet Subramania Bharati, emphasising unity in India’s diversity.

Commending the academic progress of Tripura University, the Vice-President said the institution has emerged as a vibrant centre for teaching, research and innovation. During the event, he also digitally inaugurated the Faculty Development Centre Building and Residential Quarters Complex of the university.

The convocation was attended by Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Manik Saha, Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor Shyamal Das and Registrar Samir Kumar Sil, along with faculty members, parents and graduating students.
