Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Monday presented the State Budget for the financial year 2026–27 in the Legislative Assembly, proposing an outlay of ₹34,212.31 crore. The budget estimates a deficit of ₹240.72 crore while outlining a range of development initiatives across key sectors.

Presenting the budget on the second day of the ongoing Budget Session, the Finance Minister said the government has prioritized balanced development while maintaining fiscal discipline. The session was chaired by Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul.

According to the Finance Minister, the capital expenditure for the upcoming financial year has been fixed at ₹8,945.92 crore, which is 13.19 percent higher than the estimated capital outlay for the financial year 2025–26. The increase in capital spending reflects the state government’s focus on strengthening infrastructure and accelerating economic growth.

During the session, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced a 5 percent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for state government employees and pensioners. The revised rates will come into effect from April 1, 2026 and will cost the state exchequer approximately ₹500 crore annually.

The DA and DR hike is expected to benefit around 1,02,465 government employees and 81,019 pensioners and family pensioners across the state. The announcement was welcomed by employees and retirees, who view it as an important step toward easing financial pressure amid rising living costs.

The budget has been framed with a focus on building a “Viksit Tripura,” with special emphasis on inclusive development and welfare-oriented policies. Several new schemes and initiatives have been proposed, particularly targeting the development of Janajati communities, strengthening of healthcare and education sectors, employment generation, and expansion of road infrastructure.

In addition, the government has proposed measures aimed at boosting industrial growth and enhancing support for farmers. The Finance Minister also highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the tourism sector, announcing multiple initiatives to promote tourism and attract more visitors to the state.

In his address, the Finance Minister noted that Tripura has been witnessing a significant decline in the overall crime rate, attributing it to improved law enforcement and governance measures.

He said the budget has been carefully designed with a clear vision to ensure inclusive growth and the overall welfare of citizens from all sections of society, including Janajati communities, minorities, and other marginalized groups.
