Agartala: Jan 31: After the region conference, the sub-district conference was held, followed by the district conference, and finally, the state conference of CPI(M) took place. In the lead-up to the CPI(M) state conference, the ruling party made numerous attempts to disrupt the public rally. Initially, the venue was allocated in front of Rabindra Bhavan for the rally, but the police administration insisted that a written assurance be provided stating that no more than 3,000 people would attend. To further obstruct the gathering, vehicles were blocked at various points to prevent attendees from reaching the venue. Despite these obstacles, the rally was successfully held at Rabindra Bhavan.

A total of 414 delegates participated in the CPI(M) state conference. At the start of the conference, a written report was presented in accordance with the party’s organizational rules, and 51 delegates engaged in discussions on the report. After the discussions, a new 60-member CPI(M) state committee was formed, with 14 members designated as part of the executive body. Additionally, 40 delegates were chosen for the All-India Conference, along with two observers.

In line with new party rules, any member above the age of 75 is not allowed to be part of the committee, but Narayan Kar and Pabitra Kar were appointed as special invited members of the state committee. Even though the former Chief Minister, Manik Sarkar, is above 75, his name was included in the committee by unanimous consent due to his relevance in the current political context and his good health.

Following the formation of the new state committee, Jitendra Choudhury was proposed as the state secretary. No other member expressed interest in the role, and he was unanimously re-elected. During the press conference, Manik Dey announced that 9 proposals were adopted at the conference, with plans for future street protests. Shankar Prasad Dutt and Ratan Bhowmik were also present at the conference.
