Agartala: August 01: In a significant diplomatic development aimed at deepening Indo-Bangla ties, M Riaz Hamidullah, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, is set to embark on a four-day official visit to Tripura from August 1 to 4, 2025. The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and accelerate joint efforts in enhancing cross-border connectivity and infrastructure development.

According to a memorandum issued by the General Administration (Political) Department, the High Commissioner will arrive at MBB Airport, Agartala on Friday. His itinerary begins with a floral tribute at Albert Ekka Park, followed by a series of high-level meetings with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu—underlining the diplomatic importance of this engagement.

The visit underscores Tripura’s rising strategic importance as a crucial gateway to Bangladesh and the broader Southeast Asian region. Hamidullah will tour several key locations linked to cross-border trade and transit, including the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, the Agartala Integrated Check Post (ICP), Akhaura Land Port, Maitri Setu, Sabroom, Ashuganj, and Nischintapur Railway Station, part of the Akhaura-Agartala Rail Link.

A notable feature of the itinerary includes a cross-border transit through the Akhaura Land Port and interactions with regional administrative units such as the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Brahmanbaria. A ceremonial dinner hosted by the Chief Minister further emphasizes the goodwill and mutual cooperation between the two nations.

The Government of Tripura has instructed all departments to ensure seamless coordination and preparations to facilitate the visit. Officials expect the diplomatic outreach to pave the way for increased connectivity, economic integration, and stronger people-to-people ties between India and Bangladesh.
