Agartala, July 28 – West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has expressed gratitude to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for positively considering the long-pending demand to introduce a weekly special train between Agartala and Haridwar.
The proposed service aims to boost connectivity for pilgrims, tourists and residents of Tripura, providing easier access to North Indian destinations.
In a letter dated July 24, 2025, Railway Minister Vaishnaw confirmed that the Ministry of Railways has initiated an assessment of the operational feasibility of the route. This step comes after MP Deb’s letter on July 19, in which he urged the minister to expedite the proposal in response to strong public demand.
“I sincerely thank the Railway Minister for taking this matter forward and prioritising the needs of Tripura’s people,” Deb said in a statement. “The train will be a boon for those travelling to religious and tourist destinations in northern India.”
According to officials, the Railway Ministry has instructed its teams to study the route logistics, scheduling requirements and infrastructure availability. The final decision on starting the service will be taken once the feasibility report is submitted.
The proposed Agartala-Haridwar weekly train is expected to provide a much-needed direct connection to northern India, making long-distance travel more affordable and convenient for the people of Tripura and adjoining states.
Residents, religious organisations and travel groups have welcomed the move, seeing it as a vital step towards strengthening Tripura’s integration with the national rail network and boosting tourism opportunities.
This development marks yet another milestone in Tripura’s ongoing efforts to improve transport infrastructure and connectivity with the rest of the country. Further updates will follow once the feasibility study is complete.
