Dhaka, July 28 – A total of 33 people, including 27 children, remain hospitalised following last week’s tragic plane crash that struck Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara area, local media reported on Monday.

Professor Nasir Uddin, Acting Director of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said during a briefing that three of the admitted patients are in a critical condition. “The good news is that three patients with intermediate-level injuries are now stable enough to be sent home. However, considering the weather and their families’ request, they will be discharged after their next dressing,” he told reporters.

He further informed that as of Sunday, two patients were on ventilator support. “We lost one of them yesterday. Currently, 33 individuals are admitted. Among them, three are critical and another three are classified as severe. A total of 27 are children,” he said, while refraining from confirming the overall death toll.

“The Ministry will disclose the official number of fatalities,” he added.

According to earlier reports, the death toll had climbed to 34, with most of the victims being schoolchildren.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the Bangladesh Air Force’s Chinese-made F-7 BGI training aircraft took off at 1:06 p.m. local time on July 21 and crashed into the Milestone School and College building around 1:30 p.m.

An Indian medical team comprising specialists from Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia and Safdarjung Hospitals is assisting Bangladesh in treating the critically injured. The team has reviewed the cases and discussed treatment strategies with local doctors.

Authorities said treatment and rehabilitation of the injured will continue as a top priority while investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
