The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday asserted that the Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) recent political outreach in Tripura had “failed miserably,” calling it nothing more than a publicity stunt that yielded no tangible results.

Addressing the media at the BJP state headquarters in Agartala, party spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty said the six-member TMC delegation, led by Kunal Ghosh, had arrived in the state seeking political mileage ahead of next year’s Assembly elections. “The team, which included Ghosh—an accused in the chit fund scam—and MP Sayoni Ghosh, known for making objectionable remarks on Hindu deities, came looking for issues to attack the BJP government. Their entire exercise turned into a complete failure,” Chakraborty said.

He alleged that the TMC leadership, facing severe anti-incumbency in West Bengal due to corruption scandals, recruitment irregularities, and “appeasement politics,” was trying to shift focus to Tripura. “Realising that people in Bengal are ready to vote them out, the Trinamool attempted to divert attention by creating noise in Tripura. But their plan fell flat,” he added.

Chakraborty also commended the administration and BJP workers for ensuring that the TMC’s visit remained peaceful and controversy-free. “Our workers showed restraint, and the police ensured complete security. Their entire Tripura tour appeared like a scripted drama that started in Kolkata and ended quietly in Agartala,” he remarked.

Refuting TMC’s allegations that their party office had been attacked, the BJP spokesperson said video evidence proved otherwise. “Not a single item inside their office was damaged, no one was assaulted, and no one entered their premises,” he stated, adding that the TMC’s so-called Tripura mission collapsed under its own contradictions and lack of public support.
