Agartala, July 14 — In a major reshuffle of the higher judiciary, the Union government on Monday approved the transfer of Chief Justices across four High Courts — Tripura, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Madras — as part of the ongoing process of judicial realignment and administrative efficiency.

Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, who was serving as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, has been transferred to the Tripura High Court. In turn, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, the current Chief Justice of Tripura, has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.

These transfers, recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on May 28, aim to ensure effective leadership across various High Courts and promote the broader goal of balanced judicial administration across the country.

Alongside these movements, the Centre has also cleared the appointments of new Chief Justices for the High Courts of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gauhati, Patna, and Jharkhand. This reshaping of leadership comes amid efforts to streamline the functioning of the judiciary and reduce case backlogs across states.

The Ministry of Law and Justice confirmed that the reshuffle follows the Collegium’s emphasis on periodic transfers to maintain judicial efficiency and foster impartiality across jurisdictions.

The transfers and appointments mark one of the most significant overhauls of the high court leadership in recent months, with implications for the legal landscape in multiple states.

Legal observers note that such strategic realignments are not only about filling vacancies but also about maintaining institutional balance and judicial independence.

With the new appointments now in effect, several High Courts are expected to see changes in leadership style and focus areas in the months ahead.
