The upcoming by-election in the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly constituency has taken a decisive turn, with the Indian National Congress intensifying its campaign around development, improved healthcare, and employment generation. The party’s renewed push was evident on Sunday as senior leader and MLA Sudip Roy Barman continued his outreach for the third consecutive day, campaigning in support of candidate Chayan Bhattacharjee.

Focusing on grassroots engagement, Roy Barman led an extensive door-to-door campaign in Durgapur, particularly covering Booth No. 48. Interacting directly with residents, he distributed pamphlets detailing the party’s promises and sought to connect with voters on local issues. The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from party workers and a noticeable response from residents, signaling growing momentum for the Congress in the constituency.

During his interactions, Roy Barman launched a strong critique of the incumbent government, accusing it of pursuing “anti-people policies” that, he claimed, have hindered development and neglected public welfare. He urged voters to support Bhattacharjee, asserting that electing a Congress representative would be crucial for ensuring balanced growth and addressing long-standing civic concerns in Dharmanagar.

The Congress manifesto for the by-election outlines a range of commitments aimed at improving everyday life for citizens. Key promises include strengthening civic infrastructure, enhancing women’s safety and empowerment initiatives, upgrading district hospital facilities with modern ICUs, and ensuring access to clean and purified drinking water for every household. Employment generation, particularly for youth, and raising healthcare standards have been highlighted as top priorities.

Political observers note that the positive response in areas like Durgapur has boosted morale within the Congress camp. As the by-election approaches, the contest appears to be shaping into a referendum on governance and development. The key question remains whether voters will align with Congress’s development-centric agenda or choose to continue with the current political leadership.
