Agartala, July 6: With barely a week remaining before the first periodic assessment, Class IX students of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vidya Jyoti School at Charilam in Tripura are facing mounting anxiety due to the non-availability of Social Science (SST) textbooks. The school, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), is scheduled to begin its examinations on July 13.

Students said they are struggling to prepare for the Social Science examination as they have not yet received the prescribed NCERT textbooks. They claimed that studying the subject without the official text has become extremely difficult and appealed to the authorities to ensure that the books reach them before the examinations begin.

“Preparing without the textbook is very challenging. We hope the NCERT books are supplied immediately so that we can study properly before the exams,” one student said.

The delay has created uncertainty among students who are already under pressure to complete their preparations for the upcoming assessments. Many fear that the absence of study material could adversely affect their performance in the examination.

School Principal Manimay Bhowmik confirmed that the institution has already taken up the matter with the concerned authorities. He said the school has made repeated requests for the timely supply of the textbooks but has not yet received them.

“The issue has been brought to the notice of the authorities. However, despite continuous communication, the Social Science textbooks have not arrived. This delay is affecting the students’ academic schedule and examination preparedness,” the principal said.

Parents have also expressed concern over the situation, saying students should not have to face such difficulties just before an important examination. They urged the concerned authorities to expedite the distribution of the NCERT textbooks so that students are not placed at a disadvantage.

The shortage of textbooks has sparked widespread concern among students, parents and teachers alike, raising questions about the timely supply of educational materials in government-supported CBSE schools. With the first periodic assessment just days away, students continue to wait for the books, hoping the issue will be resolved before the examination schedule begins.
