Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday participated in the traditional Ker Puja, one of the state’s most revered indigenous festivals, reaffirming the government’s commitment to preserving Tripura’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. The rituals were performed with traditional customs and religious observances at the historic Rajbari premises in Agartala.

Speaking to reporters at the Ujjayanta Palace complex after participating in the rituals, the Chief Minister described Ker Puja as an important traditional worship of the Vastu Devata, deeply rooted in the customs and beliefs of Tripura’s indigenous communities. He said the festival occupies a unique place in the state’s cultural identity and continues to be observed with great devotion.

Dr. Saha explained that the primary purpose of Ker Puja is to seek divine blessings for the protection of the people from epidemics, natural disasters, evil forces and other adversities. The ritual also includes prayers for peace, prosperity, good health and the overall well-being of the people of the state.

Highlighting one of the distinctive features of the festival, the Chief Minister said that during Ker Puja, a sacred boundary is drawn around a designated area where the rituals are performed. Throughout the observance, strict restrictions are imposed on movement into and out of the demarcated zone, in keeping with long-standing religious traditions and customs.

The Chief Minister said the present state government has consistently accorded due respect to Tripura’s royal-era traditions and remains committed to preserving and promoting the state’s indigenous festivals, customs and cultural practices. He noted that such festivals strengthen the social fabric and help preserve the unique heritage of Tripura for future generations.

Extending his greetings to the people on the occasion of Ker Puja, Dr. Saha called upon everyone to uphold the values of harmony, unity and mutual respect. He urged citizens to work together for the state’s progress while following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”

Several dignitaries also participated in the religious ceremony, including BJP Tripura President and MLA Abhishek Debroy, along with senior public representatives and officials.

Ker Puja remains one of Tripura’s most significant traditional festivals, symbolising collective prayers for the safety, prosperity and welfare of the people while reflecting the state’s enduring cultural legacy.
