Agartala, Sep 14 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tripura on September 22 to inaugurate the redevelopment and beautification of the Mata Tripurasundari temple, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced on Sunday.
Dr. Saha made the announcement while addressing the closing ceremony of the three-day Neermahal Jal Utsav at Melaghar, highlighting the state government’s efforts to promote tourism and preserve cultural heritage.
“Replicas of all 51 Shakti Peeths are being built at Bandower in Gomati district at a cost of ₹97 crore. The Prime Minister has agreed to inaugurate the redeveloped Mata Tripurasundari temple and will also offer puja during his visit,” Dr. Saha said.
Calling it a proud moment for Tripura, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of developing tourist spots like Neermahal. “There is no other palace like Neermahal. We are working to promote it so that more people come to know of its history and beauty. Greater footfall will also boost the local economy. Built by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore with a blend of cultures, Neermahal is truly a symbol of pride,” he added.
Dr. Saha further informed that under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, the government will take up the development of Raj Ghat at Neermahal. He credited Prime Minister Modi for his initiatives to preserve India’s cultural traditions.
“In the North East, Tripura stands second in per capita GDP. Our government is working for balanced development, with special focus on rural areas. Together, we must strive to build Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura,” he said.
The event was attended by Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman, Sepahijala Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Datta, MLA Taffazal Hossain, District Magistrate Dr. Sidharth Shiv Jaiswal, SP Bijoy Debbarma, and other dignitaries.
