Agartala, March 6: A major milestone in Tripura’s healthcare services was achieved on Friday as the first emergency neurosurgery was successfully performed at the newly constructed trauma operation theatre of GBP Hospital.
The state-of-the-art operation theatre, which was inaugurated on Thursday by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, is part of the hospital’s newly developed trauma block. Strategically located adjacent to the emergency department, the facility has been designed to enable faster medical intervention for critically injured patients, significantly improving response time during emergencies.
The complex neurosurgical procedure was carried out by the hospital’s neurosurgery team led by Dr. Siddha Reddy Ankireddypalli, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, and Dr. Debdutta Saha. They were assisted by a dedicated team of doctors including Dr. Bhaskar Majumder and Dr. Swapan Debbarma.
The anaesthesia team played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the surgery, while the nursing and technical staff provided vital support throughout the procedure. The nursing team included Sister Bukhuri Jamatia, Sangita Sangma, Pallab Baidya, and Shubhayan, along with OT technician Arun Choudhury. Several General Duty Assistants (GDAs) also contributed to the coordinated effort that ensured the operation was completed smoothly.
Hospital authorities described the successful surgery as a landmark achievement and a significant step forward in strengthening trauma care services in the state. They noted that the operationalisation of the trauma operation theatre will help doctors respond more quickly to life-threatening injuries, particularly in road accidents and other emergency cases.
Officials from the Health Department also welcomed the development, stating that the new facility will greatly enhance the hospital’s capacity to handle critical cases and provide timely surgical treatment.
The successful procedure marks the beginning of a new chapter in emergency medical services at GBP Hospital, reinforcing the state government’s efforts to upgrade healthcare infrastructure and improve patient care.
