A major reshuffle in the appointments of Governors and Lieutenant Governors across several states and Union Territories has been approved by Droupadi Murmu. The changes, announced by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday, involve several prominent political and administrative figures taking on new constitutional roles.
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed as the new Governor of Maharashtra. Dev Varma is currently serving as the Governor of Telangana and will assume charge in Maharashtra once the formal process is completed. Notably, this marks the first time a leader from Tripura has been entrusted with the responsibility of serving as Governor in major states like Telangana and Maharashtra.
In another significant move, Shiv Pratap Shukla, who is presently the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, has been appointed the new Governor of Telangana, succeeding Dev Varma.
The reshuffle also includes the appointment of Nand Kishore Yadav, a former minister from Bihar, as the Governor of Nagaland. Meanwhile, retired Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain has been named the new Governor of Bihar.
Further changes involve R. N. Ravi, the current Governor of Tamil Nadu, who has been appointed Governor of West Bengal following the resignation of C. V. Ananda Bose. In the interim, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the Governor of Kerala, will discharge the functions of the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
Among the Union Territories, Kavinder Gupta, currently the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Vinai Kumar Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, will take over as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
In another key appointment, former Indian Ambassador to the United States Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been named the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
According to the official notification issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, all appointments and transfers will come into effect from the dates the respective appointees assume charge of their offices.
