The Regional Director of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre, Agartala, Dr Chandrasekhar Putta, on Monday visited the university’s Learner Support Centre (LSC)-2607 at Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar College in Belonia, South Tripura, to review preparations for the July 2026 admission cycle and assess the ongoing June 2026 Term-End Examination (TEE).
The visit was aimed at evaluating the overall functioning of the learner support centre and ensuring that academic and examination-related activities are being carried out efficiently. During the inspection, Dr Putta interacted with the centre’s officials, academic counsellors and staff to discuss strategies for improving student outreach and strengthening IGNOU’s presence across the state.
Centre Superintendent Dr Prasomita Sarkar, Examination In-charge Prof Abhijit Chowdhury and several academic counsellors were present during the review meeting.
A key focus of the visit was planning the admission campaign for the July 2026 academic session. Discussions centred on expanding awareness about IGNOU’s open and distance learning programmes, particularly among students residing in rural and remote areas of Tripura where access to higher education institutions remains limited.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Putta emphasised the university’s commitment to making higher education accessible to all sections of society.
“Our goal is to ensure that no student is deprived of access to higher education. By strengthening admission awareness activities, we can extend quality higher education opportunities through IGNOU’s open and distance learning system to more students in remote parts of Tripura,” he said.
Officials informed that admissions for the July 2026 session are currently open for a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate programmes offered through online and open and distance learning modes. Applications are being accepted through IGNOU’s Samarth portal until July 15, 2026. Students have been advised to complete the registration process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical issues.
Apart from reviewing admission preparedness, Dr Putta also inspected the ongoing June 2026 Term-End Examination. He examined seating arrangements, record maintenance, security measures and other aspects of the examination process to ensure compliance with prescribed academic standards.
Expressing satisfaction with the arrangements, the Regional Director appreciated the efforts of the centre’s officials and staff in conducting the examinations smoothly and maintaining transparency, discipline and academic integrity. He encouraged the team to continue working towards improving learner support services and expanding educational opportunities throughout Tripura.
