Agartala: Dec 01: A woman from India was reportedly abducted in Bangladesh under alarming circumstances. The victim, Fatima Khatun, a resident of Shubhapur, Sonamura, went to visit her relatives in the Kotbari Raichar area of Bangladesh on November 27, 2024. Fatima, who had obtained a passport and visa, stayed with her relatives. However, during her stay, she became involved in a dispute with some local individuals, which escalated into an attack.

On the morning of November 28, while Fatima was returning home, she was abducted by three individuals—Russell Mia, Saidul Islam, and Suman Mia—from the Bibir Bazar immigration checkpoint in Bangladesh. Despite the presence of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), customs officers, and police at the time, these criminals managed to abduct her without any intervention from the authorities.

Fatima’s family, upon learning of the abduction, immediately filed a complaint with the local Sonamura police station. They are questioning the lack of security for legitimate travelers, as Fatima had entered Bangladesh legally with a passport and visa. This incident has raised concerns among well-meaning citizens about the safety of Indian nationals visiting Bangladesh. The fact that even with proper documentation, such an attack could occur highlights serious lapses in security, with no apparent action taken by Bangladeshi authorities at the time of the abduction.

The case underscores the urgent need for better protection of foreign nationals, particularly when crossing borders with legal permits. The absence of any effective response from the Bangladeshi administration has left many questioning the safety of Indian citizens traveling to Bangladesh, even with all the necessary legal paperwork in place.
