Agartala: August 14: A long-standing demand of the people of Kailashahar and the wider Unakoti district was fulfilled on Thursday with the formal inauguration of an ultrasound diagnostic service at Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Hospital (RGM Hospital). This milestone marks a significant step forward in the district’s healthcare facilities, promising better medical services for residents across the region.

The service was officially launched in a brief but dignified ceremony by State Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education, Tinku Roy. The event was attended by Kailashahar Municipal Council Chairperson Chapala Debroy, Vice-Chairperson Nitish Dey, Unakoti Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shirshendu Chakma, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bipul Das, RGM Hospital SDMO Dr. Papia Rudra Pal, and other distinguished guests.

The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Rudra Pal. Minister Roy, in his speech, acknowledged the long-pending public demand for such a facility, stating, “The requirement for an ultrasound service at RGM Hospital has been voiced for years. After assuming office, I discussed the matter with Chief Minister and Health Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, leading to its quick implementation. The state government has already invested nearly ₹1,000 crore in the health sector, with ongoing efforts to introduce new services and develop modern infrastructure. Plans are also in place to demolish the old hospital building and construct a new one.”

Currently, a specialist doctor from Unakoti District Hospital will provide ultrasound services, with a permanent doctor to be appointed later. The facility, established at a cost of approximately ₹36 lakh, is expected to significantly enhance diagnostic capabilities and healthcare delivery in the district.

Following the inauguration, the minister and guests inspected the newly set-up ultrasound room. Local residents expressed optimism that this development will greatly improve healthcare access and quality in Unakoti district.
