Dharmanagar, July 25: After years of anticipation, a Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) was officially inaugurated in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, on Friday, marking a major step forward in the region’s educational development.

The school has begun operations in the hostel premises of Dharmanagar Degree College under Bagbasa Assembly constituency. Academic sessions commenced for Classes I to V with an inaugural ceremony attended by District Magistrate Chandni Chandan, Bagbasa MLA Jadab Lal Debnath, ONGC’s Dharmendra Mishra, newly appointed Principal Pranab Sarkar, and others.

Despite the significance of the occasion, several logistical issues marred the event. Children were made to sit on the floor, parents stood throughout the program, and media personnel were not allotted proper seating—leading to criticism and disappointment among attendees.

In her address, DM Chandni Chandan expressed optimism about the school’s future and praised MLA Jadab Lal Debnath for his relentless efforts in bringing the institution to life. She said the school is expected to become a center of academic excellence in the region.

MLA Debnath acknowledged the organizational shortcomings and criticism on social media, reiterating his commitment to fulfilling pre-election promises, including improved infrastructure like schools, roads, and bridges.

The newly inaugurated KV currently has 143 students enrolled from Classes I to V, with an additional capacity for 57 students. Each class has a limit of 40 students. The teaching staff includes one principal, four permanent teachers, and three temporary educators.

Tripura had aimed to open two Kendriya Vidyalayas this year—one in Udaipur and one in North Tripura. While the Udaipur project remains pending, the launch in Dharmanagar signals progress in strengthening educational infrastructure in the state.
