Agartala: Feb 27: CPM Politburo member and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has condemned the BJP coalition government’s bulldozer strike at Lake Chowmuhani Market, calling it “completely inhumane.” Sarkar visited the market and spoke with affected traders, many of whom are daily wage laborers from poor, lower-middle-class families.
The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) had issued warnings to traders about illegal constructions and encroachments, but Sarkar argued that demolishing shops without rehabilitation arrangements is unjust ¹. The AMC had previously stated that they would clear encroachments and illegal constructions, but it appears that the traders were not adequately consulted or compensated.
