Agartala, October 7: A 36-year-old Border Security Force (BSF) jawan from Tripura died after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest while on duty in Delhi, leaving his family and residents of Rangutia village in Bamutia area in mourning, family members said.
The deceased, identified as Premjoy Sarkar, was posted at a BSF camp in Delhi. According to his family, Sarkar fell ill on Tuesday and was taken to a hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.
Preliminary reports indicated that he had suffered a heart attack, they said.
Sarkar's mortal remains were flown to Agartala Airport on Wednesday morning and subsequently taken to his native village of Rangutia.
Local youths organised a bike rally to escort the body from the airport to his residence, with a number of people joining the procession to pay their respects to the deceased jawan.
The BSF completed the necessary formalities and accorded Sarkar a guard of honour as a mark of respect for his service.
Residents of Rangutia expressed grief over the death of the jawan, who died at the age of 36.
“The entire area is shaken and grief-stricken by the news,” a local resident said, as villagers gathered to pay their last respects to Sarkar.
Sarkar is survived by his wife and two young daughters, aged between four and seven years, besides his parents, an elder brother and three sisters.
His sudden death has left the family devastated, with relatives and neighbours consoling them during the funeral proceedings.
Residents recalled Sarkar as a young man who had joined the security forces and served the country before his untimely death.
The death of the BSF personnel has also evoked an emotional response in the local community, with people offering prayers for the departed soul and strength for his bereaved family.
The mortal remains were brought to his native village amid a gathering of local residents, who lined the route to pay their final respects.
