Agartala, October 7: The 2026-27 academic session at Maharaja Bir Bikram College began with a Nabin Baran (Freshers' Welcome) ceremony at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, where Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury urged new students to pursue academic excellence while developing values, discipline and a sense of responsibility.

Addressing the newly admitted students, Chowdhury said the beginning of college life marked an important phase in their personal and academic journey.

“Today begins one of the most important chapters of your life. College is not just about academic learning—it is about discovering yourself, gaining knowledge and skills, enriching values, and preparing to turn your dreams into reality,” he said.

The minister said students of Maharaja Bir Bikram College could contribute to the future development of Tripura and the country by making effective use of the opportunities available to them.

He encouraged the students to set clear goals, work hard and remain committed to their aspirations.

“Your success will be Tripura's success. Dream, work hard, and remain steadfast in your goals. May your journey be illuminated with knowledge, achievement, humanity, and a bright future,” Chowdhury said.

The Nabin Baran ceremony was attended by hundreds of newly admitted students, marking their formal entry into the college community.

The programme also provided an opportunity for the new batch to familiarise themselves with the institution and its academic environment. Students were encouraged to approach their college years as a period of learning, self-discovery and preparation for their future careers.

The event highlighted the importance of discipline and responsibility alongside academic pursuits, with the students being urged to contribute positively to society.

Maharaja Bir Bikram College, one of Tripura's prominent institutions of higher education, has played a significant role in the state's academic and cultural life.

The participation of the minister at the freshers' ceremony highlighted the government's emphasis on youth development and higher education.

The programme concluded with greetings and best wishes for the new academic session, as students embarked on their college journey with aspirations for academic achievement and personal growth.
