Agartala, Oct 22:The Union Ministry of Finance has launched the “Utkarsh - RRB Reforms Agenda FY27”, a comprehensive roadmap aimed at modernising Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), improving operational efficiency and expanding financial inclusion across rural India.
The reform agenda was unveiled by Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, who outlined a vision to strengthen the institutional capabilities of RRBs in line with the national objective of building a Viksit Bharat.
Satyendra Singh, Chairman of Tripura Gramin Bank, attended the programme along with banking professionals and senior officials from across the country, reflecting the banking sector's focus on strengthening rural financial institutions.
The initiative seeks to transform RRBs into more efficient, technology-driven and future-ready institutions capable of responding to the evolving financial needs of rural communities, according to the information provided.
The reform framework focuses on expanding access to formal banking services, promoting innovation, improving institutional efficiency and ensuring sustainable growth. It also aims to enhance service delivery and strengthen the operational capabilities of RRBs to better serve farmers, rural households, small entrepreneurs and other underserved sections of society.
Regional Rural Banks have played a significant role in connecting rural communities with the formal banking system by providing credit and other financial services to farmers, self-employed individuals and small businesses.
The new agenda seeks to build on this role by strengthening institutional resilience and improving customer-centric services, enabling RRBs to contribute more effectively to rural development.
The programme also aligns with the Centre's broader objective of creating an inclusive financial ecosystem in which access to banking services and economic opportunities extends to rural and underserved areas.
By encouraging technological advancement and improving operational performance, the reform roadmap aims to equip RRBs to address emerging challenges in the banking sector while maintaining their focus on grassroots financial inclusion.
The launch of the Utkarsh - RRB Reforms Agenda FY27 underscores the importance attached to rural banking institutions in supporting livelihoods, facilitating credit access and promoting economic activity beyond urban centres.
The initiative is expected to provide a framework for strengthening the role of Regional Rural Banks in advancing rural prosperity and contributing to India's long-term development goals.
