Agartala, September 22: A five-day training programme aimed at strengthening teachers’ professional capabilities and improving classroom practices began at the indoor hall of Hapania International Fair Ground on Tuesday.
The programme was inaugurated by NCERT Director Prof Dinesh Prasad Saklani. It has been organised by NECERT in collaboration with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) under the National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA).
School Education Department Secretary Dr Milind Ramteke was present at the inaugural session, which was formally opened by Saklani pressing a button.
Speaking at the event, Saklani said the National Education Policy (NEP) had introduced a new perspective to India’s education system and teachers would play a key role in translating its objectives into classroom practices.
He said children in remote areas often develop knowledge through interactions with nature and their immediate surroundings. Education, he added, should help nurture this natural curiosity and creativity among students.
Saklani also underlined the importance of regularly reviewing educational programmes and obtaining feedback from learners. He said suggestions and experiences shared by teachers during the training would help strengthen and further develop the programme.
Ramteke said the training would focus particularly on primary and school education. He noted that Tripura currently ranks third nationally in literacy and expressed hope that the programme would further enhance the professional skills of teachers.
SCERT Director L Darlong delivered the welcome address, while Prof Ranjana Arora, Head of the Department of Curriculum Studies and Development (DCS&D), NCERT, elaborated on the objectives and framework of the NISHTHA programme.
Prof Sarad Sinha, Head of the Department of Teacher Education (DTE), NCERT, attended the inaugural programme as the guest of honour.
A documentary highlighting the NISHTHA programme was also screened during the event.
