Agartala, September 21: Two women members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from Poangbari BMMU in South Tripura are showcasing the state’s traditional handicrafts at the Karnataka Saras Fair 2026, providing them an opportunity to take their products and entrepreneurial skills to a wider market.
The fair, being held from September 9 to 27 in Karnataka, has brought together rural artisans, SHG members and entrepreneurs from different parts of the country. The Tripura participants are presenting a range of handcrafted products reflecting the state’s traditional artistry, cultural heritage and contemporary creativity.
Their participation has also provided an opportunity to interact directly with customers and prospective buyers outside Tripura. Through the national-level platform, the women entrepreneurs are gaining exposure to new markets while promoting products developed through the SHG ecosystem.
Officials of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) said participation in such exhibitions is aimed at strengthening market linkages for SHG products and creating avenues for rural women to expand their businesses beyond the local market.
According to officials, exposure to national fairs can help SHG members understand customer preferences, establish market contacts and develop greater confidence in handling their enterprises.
The initiative is expected to contribute to improving livelihood opportunities for women artisans while promoting grassroots entrepreneurship in rural areas. It also underlines the role of SHGs in helping women develop sustainable income-generating activities and move towards greater economic self-reliance.
The Tripura stall has attracted attention from visitors at the fair, with the state’s handcrafted products drawing appreciation for their distinctive designs and craftsmanship.
Officials said such platforms not only create commercial opportunities for rural producers but also facilitate cultural exchange by bringing traditional crafts from different regions together under one roof.
The participation of the two SHG members is thus providing a national showcase for Tripura’s handicrafts while highlighting the skills and entrepreneurial potential of women associated with the state’s rural livelihood initiatives.
