Bengaluru, Aug 10 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Yellow Line Metro services at the R.V. Road (Ragigudda) Metro Station, linking Bengaluru’s central district to the city’s tech hub, Electronics City. Before entering the platform, the Prime Minister purchased his Metro ticket by scanning a QR code.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, and Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials briefed him on the project. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Ministers Manohar Lal and Ashwini Vaishnaw, MoS Shobha Karandlaje, MPs Tejasvi Surya and C.N. Manjunath, former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy, and MoS V. Somanna were among those present.
Despite rain, thousands gathered at the station to greet Modi, raising slogans and showering flowers. He acknowledged the crowd with a wave before flagging off the Metro train.
The Prime Minister then embarked on a 19.15 km inaugural journey from R.V. Road to Bommanahalli, accompanied by 16 girl students from a government school and eight labourers who worked on the project. The route covers 16 stations, enhancing connectivity for Bengaluru South residents.
From Bommanahalli, Modi proceeded to the IIIT Auditorium in Electronics City, where he formally inaugurated the Yellow Line services again and laid the foundation stone for Phase 3 of the Metro project.
BJP Yuva Morcha President and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya said the Prime Minister was dedicating two major projects to the city. He noted that once Phase 3 is operational, Bengaluru’s daily Metro ridership could reach 10 lakh, with the Yellow Line alone benefiting 18 lakh commuters in the South.
Surya added that Modi personally ensured there was no delay in starting services, fixing the inauguration date within a week. “I congratulate Prime Minister Modi on behalf of Bengaluru and Karnataka,” he said.
